Fundraising - Claire's Chilly 100!
Total raised: £465
Aim: £500
The Captain Tom foundation have launched the ‘Captain Tom 100’ so that money can be raised for charities in Tom’s memory.
So, I am combining two of my passions; ensuring people with learning disabilities live their best lives, and my newest one, cold water swimming. Over the weekend of Friday 30th April – Monday 3rd May I will spend 100 minutes in the sea. This may not sound a lot over four days, but my first ever dip in anything other than the English channel in August was just 5 weeks ago, on 27th February and lasted about 90 seconds (currently my maximum is about 18 minutes, and that was a one off and the conditions were perfect; calm, sunny, no wind….
The Sea temperature in Bognor today is 8.8 degrees, it could reach around 9.5 by the end of the month (but could also go down!).
I will need to spend 25 minutes each day in the sea over four consecutive days, without the luxury of ‘missing a day’ if the weather is ‘not right’, ‘too cold’ or ‘I just don’t feel like it’.
But, I love a challenge, so bring it on… I really think this new found hobby of mine is good for the mind, body and soul so this will help me take it up a notch or two, whilst also supporting the fantastic people I work with every day.
No wetsuit, just neoprene gloves and socks to stop the extremities falling off!
Please do support the fantastic charity that is the Aldingbourne Trust if you can.
You can also gift aid your donation if you are a UK tax payer which means we can claim an extra 25p from the UK government for every £1 you give.
